My Perspective: Neat People vs. Sloppy People by Suzanne Britt
In the beginning, I didn't expect the author would mention that "Neat people are lazier and meaner than sloppy people." It is widely stipulated that sloppy people are the lazy ones. That is precisely what I grew up hearing. Yes, I am kind of sloppy sometimes. To put it nicely, you could say I'm somewhat in between being sloppy and neat. The author mentioned that a sloppy individual "Will file everything on the surface of their desks including the cash receipts" and I could relate. I don't throw out my receipts until the ink is completely gone. In honesty, a lot of thought goes into throwing something out because I "can't bear to part with" particular items (my sketchbooks).
The author was quite harsh when she mentioned neat people as "bums and clods at heart." Additionally, I can't agree that "Everything is a dust catcher to them" as I believe a neat person would clean up the mess. Moreover, I don't think anyone (neat or sloppy) would give up the opportunity to send their child outside or by their grandparents for the weekend to clean up or "cut down on the clutter." When Suzanne Britt mentioned, "They like results." I thought, Doesn't everyone like results? I sure do, especially finishing quick enough so that I can relax. Britt believes being a neat person directly means that you are "incredibly wasteful," emotionless, and expensive. However, that has nothing to do with their emotional capabilities, wastefulness, or money spending issues.
Though it is nice to see that someone is actually on the side of sloppy individuals. It seems like the author loathes neat people. Especially since she seems to be a sloppy individual from the way she wrote. Lastly, she seems to be speaking from very few encounters with neat people.
