Brainstorming
Brainstorming: Crisis
During class, we were given a brainstorming task. These are the words that came to mind when I thought of the word "Crisis";
- Hurricane
- Abuse
- Heatwave
- Unemployment
- Child abandonment
- Financial Problems
- Theft/ Robbery
- Death
- Volcanic eruption
- Flood
- Tornado
- Pollution
- Chemical Contamination
- Fires
- Wild Fires
- Earthquake
- Suicide
- Self Harm
- Pandemic
- Poverty
After I finished jotting down these words, I began an elimination process of repetitive words and asked myself if they could identify as a crisis.
Afterward, we then had to group those words into categories. This is where I realized certain words fell into more than one category.
- Natural Disasters: Hurricane, Heatwave, Volcanic eruption, Flood, Tornado, Wildfires, Earthquake.
- Manmade Disasters: Pollution, Chemical contamination, Fires.
- Personal Situations/ Mental Health Issues: Abuse, Unemployment, Child abandonment, Financial problems, Theft/ Robbery, Death, Suicide, Self-harm.
- Economical Situations: Unemployment, Financial problems, Theft/ Robbery, Death, Pandemic, Poverty.
Overall, I found this exercise to be quite enjoyable. It was a creative way to get my points out and, I believe this method will aid in writing on any given topic. Although coming up with words was not hard, it was challenging to ensure terms weren't synonymous with the one given. Additionally, when it came to putting my points into categories I was not faced with much of a problem. This is because each word has a link as to why they're together. For instance, the words Earthquake, Hurricane, and Flood are Natural Disasters. If I became puzzled as to which words to put into a category I would ask myself questions like " what/ who is this crisis affecting?", "what/ who causes this crisis?" or simply why I was placing the word into that category. In short, this brainstorming activity has taught me an easier and faster way of producing ideas to aid with writing.
Nice work👍
